The Hirakubo Peninsula certification scheme begins

A sky of stars overhead that takes the breath away, an emerald sea running on without end, lush green hills that sustain life in abundance.
This is our home, the Hirakubo Peninsula.
It is an irreplaceable inheritance, opened up and then carefully kept by those who came before us, through sweat and tears.
This landscape, this abundance, this quiet way of living — we want them still here in a hundred years, and beyond.
Those of us who gather in this council want that, sincerely.
“Local matters are decided locally”
Our home now faces a wave of change. Rather than wait to see where it carries us, we have decided to make the future with our own hands.
Local matters are decided locally.
That intention was gathered into the Hirakubo Peninsula Joint Charter. The certification scheme is one answer to the question of how to breathe life into that charter and root it in the place.
The scheme is not simply a way of rating businesses.
It is a way of finding and supporting partners — those who understand in depth what this peninsula is worth, who respect its nature, its culture and its community, and who will build its future with us.
We want to work with operators who do not pursue profit alone, but feel pride in doing business on this land.
Your work becomes the island’s future
The scheme has three ranks, marking the depth of the tie with the community.
- Bronze — a first step, walking with the community.
- Silver — proof of trust, contributing to the community in practice.
- Gold — a leader, carrying the future of the place forward.
The criteria are not turnover or size. They are the five pillars that matter most to us.
- Protecting the night sky and the landscape — the will to keep a sky and a view that stand comparison with anywhere.
- Conserving the natural environment — a real regard for the blue sea and the green hills.
- Circular use of resources and energy saving — the sense to carry the island’s gifts into the future.
- Carrying on history and culture — gratitude and respect towards those who came before.
- Contributing to the community — valuing the ties between people.
Every piece of your work supports these five pillars, and shapes what this peninsula becomes.
To those who will build the future with us
To everyone doing business on the Hirakubo Peninsula.
Joining this scheme is not a marketing extra. It is an undertaking towards the future of this place, and a mark of pride in belonging to it.
For visitors, the certification sticker is a mark of trust. More than that, it creates a strong tie between those who share the same intention.
To residents, and to everyone who loves this peninsula: when you see a shop or a service displaying this mark, it belongs to someone protecting our future alongside us. Please support them warmly. Each such choice is what keeps this landscape as it is.
Let us begin.
So that the children of a hundred years from now can look up at the same beautiful sky we look up at and think, sincerely, that they were fortunate to be born on this island.
Bring what you care about to the future of this peninsula.
We look forward to your taking part.
